About pdf24tools

pdf24tools is an independent website with 111 free tools for PDF files and pictures. Every tool runs inside your browser, so your files are processed on your own phone or computer and are never uploaded to us.

What pdf24tools is

pdf24tools.org offers tools to merge, split, compress, convert, edit, sign, protect and create PDF files, plus converters for pictures such as HEIC, WebP and PNG. There is no account, no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit.

The site is run by the pdf24tools team. pdf24tools is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to PDF24 or Geek Software GmbH; PDF24 is a trademark of its owner. The tools, the code and the texts on this site are our own.

How the tools work

Each page loads the program code of its tool once. When you choose a file, the browser reads it from your disk with the File API, the tool works on it in JavaScript or WebAssembly in the same tab, and the result is handed back to you as a normal download. The result line of every tool shows the time it took and 0 bytes uploaded.

Because nothing runs on a server, the tools keep working when you go offline after the page has loaded, and the speed depends on your device: a recent laptop handles most files in under a second, a phone takes a little longer.

  • Libraries we build on include pdf.js, pdf-lib, qpdf (WebAssembly), JSZip, mammoth and Tesseract for OCR.
  • The OCR tool downloads its recognition engine and language data from a public CDN the first time you use it; your document is still processed locally.

How we test and write

Every tool page is written from the tool's real behaviour. We run the tools on a fixed set of test files (scans, photos, Word, Excel and PowerPoint files, forms, invoices) in Chrome, measure sizes, page counts and times, and print those numbers with the test date. Limits are stated plainly, for example when a conversion turns text into an image.

We do not invent ratings, reviews, quotes or statistics. When a page quotes a source, the quote is linked to that source, such as a standard body, a browser documentation site or Wikipedia.

What we do not do

  • We do not upload, store, read or share your files.
  • We do not offer tools we cannot do honestly in a browser, such as validated PDF/A, official e-invoice validation or signature trust checks.
  • We do not sell desktop software or ask you to install anything.
