How to use pdf24 HEIC to JPG in 4 steps
- Choose the HEIC photos. Tap Choose images or drop the .heic or .heif files on the box. Several photos can be converted together.
- Pick the JPEG quality. High (88 %) suits most uses; Best (95 %) for printing; Small file (60 %) for email.
- Press Convert images. The first run loads the HEIC decoder, then each photo is converted on your device.
- Download. One photo downloads as a .jpg file; several photos come as one ZIP file with a JPG for each.
What does pdf24 HEIC to JPG do with an iPhone photo?
pdf24 HEIC to JPG decodes the HEIC photo in your browser with the open-source heic2any library and saves the pixels as a new JPEG at the quality you choose. The pixel size stays exactly the same, 1200 × 900 in our test, and the result opens on Windows, Android, older Macs and every website.
HEIC stores photos with HEVC compression, which needs less space than JPEG for the same look. That is why the JPG is bigger: 21.1 KB of HEIC became 37.4 KB of JPEG at 88 %. The look of the photo does not change in a visible way at that quality.
“Such files require less storage space than the equivalent-quality JPEG files of the same images.”
pdf24 HEIC to JPG quality levels
| Choice | JPEG quality | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| Best | 95 % | Printing, editing later |
| High (default) | 88 % | Sharing, web, documents |
| Medium | 75 % | Social media, chat |
| Small file | 60 % | Email limits, portals |
Every level keeps the full resolution; only the compression changes. Our photo went from 37.4 KB at 88 % to 29.3 KB at 60 %, a 22 % saving, with no change in pixel size.
pdf24 HEIC to JPG on Windows
Windows only opens HEIC photos with the HEIF and HEVC extensions from the Microsoft Store installed. The browser converter needs neither: drop the photos copied from the iPhone or downloaded from iCloud, and the JPG files open in Photos, Paint, Word and every upload form.
pdf24 HEIC to JPG on Android
HEIC photos sent from an iPhone through email or file sharing may not preview on Android. Open the page in Chrome or any other current browser, tap Choose images, pick the files in Downloads, and save the JPG files back to the gallery. Large batches take longer on a phone, since the decoding runs on the device.
pdf24 HEIC to JPG: tip for many photos
Select the whole batch at once. The download is then a single ZIP named after the first photo, with one JPG per HEIC inside; unzip it with the built-in tool of your system. A HEIC file that holds a sequence of images gives one JPG per image, numbered -page-1, -page-2 and so on.
Does pdf24 HEIC to JPG remove the photo's EXIF and GPS data?
pdf24 HEIC to JPG writes a completely new JPEG from the decoded pixels, so the result carries no EXIF data: no GPS position, no date taken, no camera model. We checked our output with an image library and found no EXIF block. The visible photo itself is unchanged.
For privacy this is a plus: a photo of a flat for rent or an item for sale does not reveal where it was taken. If you rely on the date or location, for example to sort an archive, keep the original HEIC files as well. HDR and 10-bit colour are reduced to standard 8-bit colour, which is what JPEG holds.
The file name stays recognisable: IMG_1234.heic becomes IMG_1234.jpg, so photos keep their order when sorted by name. Colour is kept as the browser displays it, and the JPEG uses the standard sRGB colour space that every program understands. Check one converted photo next to the original on your screen before deleting anything; with pdf24 HEIC to JPG, what you see in the browser preview of the original is what ends up in the new file, pixel for pixel, apart from the JPEG compression you selected for it.
Is pdf24 HEIC to JPG private?
pdf24 HEIC to JPG is private because the photos are never uploaded. The browser reads them with the File API, the HEIC decoder runs as JavaScript in the page, and the JPEG is made with the browser's own canvas encoder. The result line shows 0 bytes uploaded, and the tool works offline once loaded.
- No account, no watermark, no app or codec to install.
- Nothing is stored; closing the tab clears the photos from memory.
- Need lossless files for editing? Use HEIC to PNG.
- Need one document? HEIC to PDF puts the photos on PDF pages.
pdf24 HEIC to JPG on iPhone and Mac
Apple devices can use the converter in Safari, Chrome or Firefox.
On an iPhone, Safari's photo picker may already hand over a JPEG copy instead of the HEIC original. To convert the real HEIC, save it to Files first and choose it there. On a Mac, Preview can export JPG one by one; the browser converter is quicker for batches and gives you one ZIP file with every photo already converted.
iPhones have saved photos as HEIC by default since iOS 11, released in 2017. The format keeps the same visible quality in less space, which matters on a phone with thousands of pictures. The trouble starts when the photo leaves Apple devices: many web forms, print shops, older Windows PCs and office programs still expect JPG. Converting at the moment you share keeps the space savings on your phone and gives everyone else a file they can open.
pdf24 HEIC to JPG: frequently asked questions
Is pdf24 HEIC to JPG free?
Yes. pdf24 HEIC to JPG on this site is free, with no account, no watermark and no limit on the number of photos. The decoding and encoding run in your browser, so there is no server cost to pass on. You do not need to install any app or codec either.
Is pdf24 HEIC to JPG made by PDF24?
No. pdf24tools is an independent website and is not affiliated with PDF24 or Geek Software GmbH. We use the search phrase in our titles because people type it, but the converter, its code and the measurements on this page are our own. Your photos are processed only on your device.
Does pdf24 HEIC to JPG reduce the resolution?
No. The JPG has exactly the same pixel size as the HEIC photo; our 1200 × 900 test photo stayed 1200 × 900, and a 12-megapixel iPhone photo stays 4032 × 3024. Only the compression changes, according to the quality level you choose, from Best at 95 % to Small file at 60 %.
Why is the JPG bigger than the HEIC after pdf24 HEIC to JPG?
HEIC compresses photos more efficiently than JPEG, so the same picture needs more bytes as a JPG. Our 21.1 KB HEIC became 37.4 KB at 88 % quality and 29.3 KB at 60 %. The photo looks the same; JPEG simply uses an older, less efficient method.
Does pdf24 HEIC to JPG upload my photos?
No. The photos are read with the browser File API and converted on your device. The result line reports 0 bytes uploaded, nothing is stored, and the converter keeps working after you switch on airplane mode, which shows that no server is involved in the conversion.
Can pdf24 HEIC to JPG convert many photos at once?
Yes. Select as many HEIC files as you like. One photo downloads as a single JPG; two or more come as one ZIP file containing a JPG for each photo, with the original file names. Your device's memory sets the only limit, and phones are slower than computers.
Why is pdf24 HEIC to JPG slow on the first photo?
The HEIC decoder is loaded into the page the first time you convert, and decoding HEVC-compressed photos is demanding work. Our first photo took 1.3 s on a laptop including that step. Further photos in the same visit start straight away, and a phone needs longer for large photos.
Does pdf24 HEIC to JPG keep the date and location?
No. The new JPEG is written from the pixels only, so EXIF data such as GPS position, date taken and camera model is not included. That protects your privacy when you share the photo. Keep the original HEIC files if you need that information for sorting or records.
Does pdf24 HEIC to JPG work with HEIF files from Android phones?
Yes. The box accepts .heic and .heif files and files labelled image/heic or image/heif. Phones from other makers that save photos as HEIF use the same container, so their pictures convert the same way as iPhone photos, as long as they use HEVC compression.
What happens to Live Photos in pdf24 HEIC to JPG?
Only the still photo is converted. A Live Photo stores its moving part as a separate short video file that is not inside the HEIC, so the JPG shows the key photo exactly as the Photos app does when the Live Photo is not playing.
Can pdf24 HEIC to JPG make photos small enough for email?
Yes, in two ways. Choose Small file (60 %) to reduce the bytes while keeping the resolution, or convert the photos to a PDF with the Small file option, which also reduces the pixel size. For an exact limit, compress the JPG or PDF afterwards on this site.
