  1. Choose the PDF. Tap Choose a file or drop one PDF on the box; the page preview appears and the file stays on your device.

What makes pdf24 PDF to PNG different from PDF to JPG?

pdf24 PDF to PNG saves pages in a lossless format, so every pixel is stored exactly as drawn, with no JPEG speckles around letters and lines. That suits text pages, diagrams, logos, forms and screenshots that you will zoom, edit or print, where JPG would blur fine detail slightly.

pdf24 PDF to PNG compared with JPG: lossless and crisp, but larger for photos and scans
Based on our measurements and the two formats' features.

“Portable Network Graphics is a raster-graphics file format that supports lossless data compression.”

The page is drawn on a white sheet, just as a PDF reader shows it, and saved as a 32-bit PNG. We checked every pixel of our test pages: none was transparent, so the images look the same in chat apps, slides and on dark websites. If you need a cut-out logo with a transparent background, remove the white in an image editor afterwards.

pdf24 PDF to PNG and the page background

A white, opaque page is what most people expect: documents never turn black in WhatsApp or Telegram, and the image prints like the PDF. If you want the photos inside the PDF rather than whole pages, Extract images saves those at their own size.

pdf24 PDF to PNG for slides and documents

To place a PDF page in PowerPoint, Keynote, Google Slides or a design tool, PNG at 150 dpi is a good default: the text stays crisp when the slide is projected, and you can crop the page in the slide app without any compression blur.

pdf24 PDF to PNG for diagrams and line art

Thin lines, charts and technical drawings are where lossless pays off. JPEG blurs one-pixel lines and adds noise next to them; PNG keeps them exactly as rendered, which also matters if you trace or measure them later.

pdf24 PDF to PNG tip: pick 300 DPI for small print

If the page has footnotes, map labels or 6-point text, convert at 300 DPI. On our A4 test pages that gives 2,479 × 3,508 pixels, about 798 KB per text page, enough to zoom in and still read every letter.

How big are the files from pdf24 PDF to PNG?

File size with pdf24 PDF to PNG depends on the page. Dense text compresses well: our A4 text page was 313 KB at 150 dpi, slightly smaller than as JPG. Photos and scans do not: one scanned page was 3.29 MB as PNG against 747 KB as JPG, about 4.4 times larger.

The invoice page shows the other side: mostly white with a little text and a table, it was 111 KB as PNG but only 65.7 KB as JPG and 31.7 KB as WebP. Rule of thumb from our tests: PNG for sharpness, JPG or WebP when file size matters more.

When should you use pdf24 PDF to PNG, and when not?

Use pdf24 PDF to PNG when the image must look perfect: text screenshots, tables, charts, logos, signatures, slides and anything you will edit again. Avoid it for scanned documents and photo pages, where PNG files grow to several megabytes per page without looking any better than a JPG.

  • Good fit: text pages, tables, diagrams, logos, forms you will annotate, images you will edit or print.
  • Poor fit: scans, photo books, brochures full of pictures; use PDF to JPG.
  • Only the photos inside: Extract images saves them at their own size.
  • Words, not pictures: PDF to TXT or Copy from PDF.

Is pdf24 PDF to PNG private?

pdf24 PDF to PNG keeps your file on your device. The browser opens the PDF with the File API and draws the pages with JavaScript, so no upload ever happens; we logged 0 upload requests in every test, and the result line shows 0 bytes uploaded. The PNGs are created locally, without watermark.

Open the browser's developer tools (F12) and watch the Network tab while you convert: no request carries your document. The File API on MDN explains how a web page can read a local file without sending it.

The tool works in current versions of Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iPhone and iPad, with nothing to install. The download lands in the usual Downloads folder, or in Files → Downloads on an iPhone, from where you can save a PNG to Photos.

At 300 DPI a single A4 page is almost 9 million pixels, and scanned pages can exceed 3 MB each as PNG. On a phone with little free memory, convert a few pages at a time with the Pages field, or choose 150 DPI. Our scanned page at 150 dpi took 1.6 seconds on a laptop.

PNG is one of three image formats this site offers for PDF pages. PDF to images lets you switch between JPG, PNG and WebP, PDF to TIFF keeps all pages in one lossless file, and PNG to PDF turns images back into a document.

pdf24 PDF to PNG: frequently asked questions

Is pdf24 PDF to PNG free?

Yes. There is no account, no watermark and no limit on files or pages. The conversion runs in your own browser, so there is no server cost per file to recover. Convert one page or a whole report as often as you like, and keep every PNG for any use.

Is pdf24 PDF to PNG lossless?

The PNG files themselves are lossless: every pixel the page was drawn with is stored exactly. The only choice that affects detail is the resolution, 72, 150 or 300 DPI. At 150 DPI an A4 page is 1,240 × 1,754 pixels; at 300 DPI it is 2,479 × 3,508 pixels.

Does pdf24 PDF to PNG keep a transparent background?

No. Pages are drawn on a white sheet, exactly as a PDF reader shows them, and saved fully opaque; we checked every pixel of our test pages and found none transparent. That keeps documents readable in chat apps that show transparency as black. For a cut-out logo, remove the white in an image editor.

Is pdf24 PDF to PNG better than JPG?

For text, lines and logos, yes: PNG has no compression artefacts, and our dense text page was even slightly smaller as PNG (313 KB) than as JPG (335 KB) at 150 dpi. For scans and photos, no: one scanned page was 3.29 MB as PNG against 747 KB as JPG.

Does pdf24 PDF to PNG upload my file?

No. The PDF is read and drawn inside your browser, and the PNGs are made on your device. Every network request was logged in our tests: 0 uploads, and the result line confirms 0 bytes uploaded. That is why it is suitable for contracts, IDs and other private documents.

Can pdf24 PDF to PNG convert one page only?

Yes. Type the page number, such as 3, in the Pages field and you get a single .png file without a ZIP. Ranges work too: 2-4 or 1-3, 7. Leave the field empty to convert every page; two or more pages are delivered together in one ZIP file.

What resolution should I pick in pdf24 PDF to PNG?

Choose 72 DPI for previews and chat (595 × 842 pixels for A4), 150 DPI for slides, websites and reading on screen, and 300 DPI for printing or small text. On our text pages that meant roughly 99 KB, 313 KB and 798 KB per PNG.

Is this pdf24 PDF to PNG converter part of PDF24?

No. pdf24tools is an independent website, not affiliated with PDF24 or Geek Software GmbH. This converter is our own code that runs in your browser, uploads nothing and needs no sign-up. Only the simple tool names are similar; the site, code and team are separate.

Can I use pdf24 PDF to PNG on an iPhone?

Yes. Open the page in Safari, tap Choose a file, pick the PDF in Files and convert. A single PNG is saved in Files → Downloads; open it and tap Share → Save Image to put it in Photos. Several pages come in a ZIP that the Files app opens with a tap.

Why are my pdf24 PDF to PNG files so large?

Usually because the pages are scans or photos. PNG stores every pixel without lossy compression, so a scanned page at 150 dpi was 3.29 MB in our test. Use JPG or WebP for such pages, choose a lower resolution, or compress the PDF first if the images are only for viewing.

Can I copy text from a pdf24 PDF to PNG image?

No. A PNG is a picture, so the words cannot be selected or searched. Keep the PDF for searching, or get the words as text with PDF to TXT. An OCR tool can read text back out of a PNG later, but with possible mistakes on small or unusual fonts.

Does pdf24 PDF to PNG work with password-protected PDFs?

Only after the open password is removed. If the PDF asks for a password before it opens, run Unlock PDF with the password you know, then convert that copy. Files restricted only against printing or copying normally open and convert directly.
